LI: To map the highs and lows in the character’s mood and emotions as the story progresses
We read the texts ‘Home Little Maori, Home’ and ‘Hami Grace’s Diary’ and as a group discussed in our learning conversation the ways the mood and emotions felt in their experiences in WW1 affected these men. We think this shows how both men had high and lows but for different reasons. This is because Rikihana Carkeek wrote about what happened in the trenches of Gallipoli whereas Hami Grace wrote about his journey to Gallipoli. Both men were on ships but one was a warship and one was a hospital ship.
We have been exploring the ways writers use words to create mood and atmosphere in a text. Our group used a text we read in class called king and country . You can see the ways the author used different langauge features to create mood and atmosphere in this text by looking at the examples we have highlighted and explained in our DLO. My favourite example in the text we read was Verbs because the author uses verbs to describe how passionate he is with his perspective and thoughts. This shows he has a strong belief of what he is saying. The author says this with pride which dictates the reader to stand by his side and believe that he is right. I can visualise them putting their hands up. I found this activity very interesting because I learnt about more language features
LI: To find evidence in the text to support your answer
This week our group read the text Bright Fine Gold. After reading the text and thinking about the information in the article our challenge was to predict, define, and answer questions in the text. This means we predicted the text based on the title or the media, we defined interesting vocab, and we skimmed and scanned for the write information in the text.
I learnt how the old miners in 1861, found rare gold, flocked to new destinations, and used the gold to be rich.
